Teacher-to-Teacher Initiative

The U.S. Department of Education is now providing teachers with the opportunity to receive free professional development through programs available online through the following website  http://www.paec.org/teacher2teacher/. These programs allow teachers to view sessions from recent Teacher-to-Teacher workshops.  After teachers view each session, they will be given the opportunity to complete an assessment and participate in implementation activities.

Completing all activities provided would take approximately 10 hours.  Print and complete this form to accompany the documentation for Professional Development credit.

How much does a workshop cost?

Participating in the Teacher-to-Teacher courses is free. It is just another way the U.S. Department of Education is supporting teachers to achieve the goals of the No Child Left Behind Act.

What subjects and grades will be covered by the Teacher to Teacher workshops?

The Teacher-to-Teacher workshops are primarily geared towards K-8 teachers and their principals. However, teachers of all grades, subjects, and student populations will benefit from the Teacher-to-Teacher workshops.

    Why use Teacher-to-Teacher workshops?

The Teacher-to-Teacher workshops empower teachers by showing real-world examples of how scientifically based research can be successfully translated into classroom practice and by providing effective ways of using data to inform instruction. The workshop presenters are exemplary teachers who share strategies they have used to close the achievement gap and help all children learn and progress.

What if I don't have access to Dish Network or a computer at home to access the online video?

You have three options for online courses that require high speed internet access or Dish Network:

    • To watch the Teacher-to-Teacher videos on-line, you must have high speed internet access and the latest version of Windows Media Player on your computer.

    • If you are already a DISH Network customer, then you have free access to the Florida Education Channel through your subscription package. However, you may need an additional dish to receive the channel at your home or school. To find out how, call your local DISH retailer or go to www.dishnetwork.com

    •  The information on the T2T website provides course objectives, activities, assessments, and resources to assist you in documenting your participation in the course; however, you may also need to meet local requirements such as obtaining prior approval from your local professional development office if you want your credit to apply towards renewal of your teaching certificate or other professional credentials.

What do I have to do and how many Professional License Renewal credits can I receive for each course?

For every Teacher-to-Teacher course there is an:

    • Overview
    • Course Component
    • Video Note Taking Guide
    • Video
    • Course Assessment
    • Course Follow-up Activities
    • Course Handouts
    • Principal's Implementation Checklist
    • Professional Development Coordinator Feedback Form
    • Additional Resources
      • After viewing a T2T video course you will complete an assessment.  You will be shown a link to download a certificate of completion that you may use to submit to your local staff or professional development director for possible in-service credit of 2 hours of work; however, you must complete the other activities in order to receive the additional 8 hours of credit.

To maximize your participation in the T2T program, participants will complete the follow-up activities offered for each video course. These activities, which give you the opportunity to apply the course information in the classroom, can be downloaded from the course menu. You earn additional hour of credit for completing each follow-up activities.
