Fun with BUGS!! 4th grade students enjoyed a day at Mrs. Hobbs' house at her creek side outdoor classroom. Students learned about soil and water conservation, animals that live in Tennessee, and many other environmental topics. The kids also got to make homemade ice cream and had an art project in which they made model insects from only items found in nature (and a pinch of clay to help hold the items together). A student from each classroom was chosen as the winner for making the most creative and realistic insect. Those students won art supplies.
Students with their bugs: Faith from Ms. Amis's class; Brianna from Mrs. Hobbs' class; Megan from Mrs. England's room; Victoria from Mrs. Semore's class; Danny from Mrs. Rist's room; Chance from Mrs. Raines' class; and Hunter from Mrs. Lassan's class
The overall insect winner went to Brianna from Mrs. Hobbs' class. She made a fly. The body was made from a pine cone, the wings were created from cedar clippings, the legs were made out of twigs, and the eyes were holly berries.
Pioneer Days in the 4th Grade
Students gather in the gym to watch Mr. Grady Jones (Shadow Hawk) perform authentic Indian music and dances. Shadow Hawk also related Indian fables and tall tales to the students. 4th graders used the outdoor classroom to assemble to see Mr. Ed Konruff, a long hunter. He discussed the life of these hunters and and how they made a living.
Local dancers, Shawn and Kelsey J. and Abby and Austin P., show students some of their finest clogging moves. Students even take the floor to show some of their own moves.
