WHAT'S UP IN THE 5th GRADE???

The fifth grade at East Hickman Intermediate works hard to teach state standards, responsibility, and respect for self and others.  Fifth grade teachers prepare students for the TCAP Writing Assessment that is given within the first week of February. Throughout the year, teachers are helping students prepare for leaving the intermediate school and enter the middle school.

Hunter Safety is available to any fifth grade student and any other ten year old in the school during the second six weeks of school.  This program takes about thirty-five to forty minutes a day for six weeks.  Also, the American Red Cross sends a representative once a year, normally in the second six weeks,  to teach fifth graders about blood, giving blood, and promoting the upcoming blood drive.     During the school year, fifth grade students participate in the D.A.R.E. program The D.A.R.E. program consists of one forty-five minute lesson per week for ten weeks.  The 4-H program consists of six forty-five minute meetings during the school year. There is also a one hour personal health program at the end of the year.  The teachers organize an end of the year “Fun Day” that contains physical activities and competition between classes.

Thanks!

Officer Harold Choate has been our dedicated DARE instructor for the past 17 years.  The DARE class of 2009 was his last year to teach.  We should all be thankful that this man has touched the lives of our county's students.

"The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you."
