AGRICULTURE CURRICULUM
FUNDAMENTALS OF AGRICULTURE Credit: 1
Grade: 9, 10
Prerequisite: None
A course designed to provide interested students with
basic knowledge relating to agriculture. The livestock industry, types
of livestock and their uses, plant and soil science, and basic skills in
mechanics are covered.
ADVANCED PRINCIPLES OF AGRICULTURE Credit: 1
Grade: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Ag.
This course is the continuation of Agriculture I: a
more in-depth study is made of livestock. Soil and plant science
comprise much of Agriculture Science II and more mechanical skills are
taught. These skills range from cutting rafters to welding masonry.
AGRICULTURE MECHANICS Credit: 1
Grade: 11, 12
Prerequisite: Agriculture Science II
This course is the study of mechanical skills as they
relate to agriculture. Most of the coursework will consist of shop
related activities. Leadership skills are refined and much
responsibility is placed on each student through the use of projects and
extra-curricular activities.
WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AND RECREATION Credit: 1
Grade: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Agriculture Science I
The wildlife management and recreation course is
designed to assist students in developing knowledge of wildlife,
habitat, and ways to best manage natural resources so that humans may be
integral links to the chain. Included in the course are the study of
wildlife species found in Tennessee and the habitat essential to their
survival including ways to prepare these habitats and resupply them; the
study of various species’ reproductive systems as well as recreational
uses of privately owned lands. Our purpose is to provide students with
the necessary skills to be productive, contributing members of the
habitats of
Tennessee
and to realize the relationship between Ecology Wildlife Management,
Recreation, Agriculture and their related career opportunities.
GREENHOUSE MANAGEMENT Credit: 1
Grade: 11, 12
Prerequisite: Agriculture Science II
This is a course related to the rapidly growing plant
industry. It begins with the career opportunities available and their
requirements. Plant and soil sciences are taught with emphasis toward
ornamental plants. An introduction to greenhouse management is also
taught with special emphasis on bedding plants, houseplants, and potted
flowering plants.
