VISUAL ARTS I Credit: 1
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisites: None

Art I introduces the student to the elements and principles of design. In addition to textbook work, students will complete art projects using a variety of methods and media. The required fee of twenty-five (25) dollars includes a sketch pad and the use of some department materials. Other supplies (less than ten (10) dollars) must be purchased by the student beginning this course. Students will be given a list of these supplies that they may purchase at school. Projects may change affecting the supplies needed and their costs.

VISUAL ARTS II Credit: 1
Grade: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisites: Visual Arts I

Art II involves the study of famous artists, color theory, composition, and painting. In addition to supplemental reading and textbook work, the student will complete a color theory notebook and several oil paintings. The required fee of twenty-five (25) dollars includes the use of watercolor and acrylic paints, and brushes. In addition, however, oil paints, brushes, canvas, etc. must be purchased by each student (approximately one hundred and twenty-five (125) dollars). Students will be given a list of these supplies that they may purchase at school. Several factors may affect the cost.

VISUAL ARTS III Credit: 1
Grade: 11, 12
Prerequisite: Visual Arts I & II

Art III introduces the textbook study of art history. Associated projects will explore the four basic areas of sculpture: manipulation,

substitution, addition, and subtraction. Students will work with a variety of materials as they explore three-dimensional art. The required fee of twenty-five (25) dollars includes the use of clay, tools, glazes, kiln, etc. Other expenses may occur for each student. Projects and their costs vary from year to year.

VISUAL ARTS IV Credit: 1
Grade: 12
Prerequisites: Visual Arts I, II & III

Art IV is designed to be a course in independent study as advanced students continue textbook work in aesthetics and art history. Students at this level will attempt more advanced projects using techniques from past art courses. Increased productivity is a requirement. Advanced students are expected to have a portfolio and fill it with completed works. The required fee of $25.00 includes the use of many different materials. Other expenses may occur for each student. Projects and their costs vary from year to year.
