Library
Access
All sixth and seventh grade classes attend library class on a fixed schedule once a week. This allows students to learn information literacy, research skills, and to checkout books, take AR test, etc. If teachers need to schedule a time to bring classes to the library, please check with Mrs. Plunkett as to which class periods are available.
Students may obtain library passes from homeroom teachers and come to the library in the mornings (from 7:30 to 8:00). Students should be back in their homerooms for morning ritual (lunch count, etc.)
The library media center will be unavailable for individual students to use during 5th period. Teachers may sign up to bring classes, but they are not to send
students with library passes. The library will be unattended by library staff during this time.
Teachers are encouraged to use the library media center to support instruction in the classroom. The library staff is available to collaborate on and assist with assignments. The library media specialist may also be able to suggest various resources and strategies for achieving your instructional goals.
Teachers who wish to bring their classes to the library must sign up in advance to avoid scheduling conflicts and to allow the library media specialists to prepare resources and materials. Teachers wishing to schedule dates/class periods should check the calendar at the circulation desk for available dates/class periods. They should then have the library media specialist or library assistant to sign them up for the desired time(s) they wish to use the library. The classroom teacher will be responsible for monitoring and leading the class while using the library. It would also be helpful for the library media specialist to know what the class assignment will be in order to pull any necessary books, Web sites, equipment, etc.
Computer Use
In order for students to access these computers they must have their parents to sign and return the "Hickman County Schools Application for Account and Terms and Conditions for Use of the Internet 2007-2008". Students must abide by the terms and conditions of this agreement or they will be subject to cancellation of this privilege.
All students must obtain permission from the library media specialist or library assistant to print from the computers. The fee for printing is $.10 per page printed.
Students are allowed to checkout a maximum of two books at a time. The due date for materials will be ten school days from the date checked out and will be stamped in the book. Books can be renewed an unlimited number of times.
Fines for overdue books will accrue at the rate of $.10 per day for everyday overdue. At least once a week, the library staff will prepare a list of students (by grade) who have overdue books. This list will be distributed to all homeroom teachers. If students have an outstanding fine, they will not be allowed to checkout additional books until the fine has been paid. At the end of the school year, all books must be returned and fines paid before they are allowed to participate in field day. Students will be required to pay replacement costs for lost or damaged books.
Library
Identification for Checkout
Students will no longer be required to use library cards. However, they will be given a library identification number that will be used for checking out books. Students will need to memorize this number, and be sure that they use this number in a responsible manner.
