Initial Alternate Type I License:

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE REQUIRED FOR INITIAL ISSUANCE OF ALTERNATIVE TYPE I LICENSE:

§         Official transcripts from all institutions attended;

§         Completion of pre-service training;

§         Content knowledge requirement met.  Alternative Type I form

Alternate Type I Renewal:

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE REQUIRED FOR RENEWAL:

§         Program of Study (Individualized Plan) as defined and prepared by the Certification Officer or Dean of Education at an approved institution.

§         Proof of Admittance to and/or enrollment in an approved alternative licensure program.

§         Transcripts showing completion of six hours of course work from Program of Study

§         Copies of all required Praxis II examinations (except PLT) for endorsement(s) sought.

OR

Verification from Certification Officer or Dean of Education that the only deficiency is experience.

Alternative Type I form

Alternative Type II licenses

Initial applicants for an Alternative Type II license must have:

§         Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended;

§         One of the following:

   ðAcademic major in the area of employment

   ðRequired Praxis tests (must be sent directly from ETS to TN Department of   

            Education

   ðVerification of a minimum 24 semester hours in the teaching content area (list

            of courses identified on transcript)

Alternative Type II Licensure Application

Alternate Type II Renewal:

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE REQUIRED FOR RENEWAL:

§         Program of Study(Individualized Plan) as defined and prepared by the Certification Officer or Dean of Education at an approved institution.

§         Proof of Admittance to and/or enrollment in an approved alternative licensure program.

§         Transcripts showing completion of three hours of course work from Program of Study.

§         Copies of all required Praxis II examinations (except PLT) for endorsement(s) sought.

 OR

Verification from Certification Officer or Dean of Education that the only deficiency is experience.
