Title I
Parent Involvement Policy
2003-2004

The Hickman County School System encourages parents to be involved in their child's education. The Title I program encourages parents of students in the Title I program to be involved in the Title I program in the following ways:

  1. Parents will be involved in the joint development of the plan, the process of school review and improvement. This will be accomplished through meetings, the consolidated plan process, and through school planning teams;

  2. The Title I Director will provide the coordination, technical assistance, and other support necessary to schools in planning and implementing effective parent involvement, and Title I parents will be invited to be involved in parental involvement activities of the school;

  3. School and parent capacity for involvement will be built through activities and meetings which will encourage parental involvement. Activities and or meetings will be conducted in a non-threatening environment with incentives for participation;

  4. Parent involvement will include other programs which exist in the system such as Head Start;

  5. The Title I Program will conduct, with the involvement of parents, an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the parental involvement policy in improving the academic quality of the schools served under this part, including identifying barriers to greater participation by parents in activities authorized by this section (with particular attention to parents who are economically disadvantaged, are disabled, have limited English proficiency, have limited literacy, or are of any racial or ethnic minority background), and use the findings of such evaluation to design strategies for more effective parental involvement, and to revise, if necessary, the parental involvement policies described in this section.

  6. The Title I Program will involve parents in the activities of the schools such as parent-teacher conferences, open house, special conferences with parents, et cetera.

The Hickman County School System does not discriminate in its educational programs, activities, or employment practices on the basic of race, sex, national origin, religion, creed, age, martial status, or disability as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. All necessary accommodations are made for equitable participation by constituents without regard to race, gender, disability, economic status, or special needs as required by Section 427 of the General Education Provision Act & P.L. 107-110-NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND.
